The
musician and style icon Neneh Cherry will always be associated with
Buffalo Stance, her 1989 cover of a B-side by the band Morgan McVey.
She is the stepdaughter of the jazz trailblazer Don Cherry, and the
daughter of the West African percussionist Amadu Jah and artist Moki
Cherry. Neneh began singing with the punk band the Cherries at age 16
after leaving school at 14. Since then she has worked with the Slits,
Cameron McVey (now her husband), Michael Stipe, Portishead's Geoff
Barrow, Youssou N'Dour and Gorillaz. She has finished an album with
her new band Cirkus, which can be heard at cirkustent.com.
