NENEH ON MAN:
"The funny thing about this
album is that the stuff that is actually on the album as we speak was done
quite recently. But we started several years ago it seems. Initially we
went off and did some work in Sweden with two guys and we were kind of
going for something that was a bit more street based. And we worked for
like 2 or 3 months writing a bunch of songs, good songs but the whole
thing sounded a bit contrived, it was just something lacking. It wasn't
really them, maybe it was us, who knows. But it just wasn't quite right.
So when we went on to last winter writing some stuff with Johnny Dollar
who had been working on another project and we wrote the kind of epic
tunes on this record which are Woman, Feel It, Everything... So we kind of
got the big songs out of the way first. And then basically at the end of
last year we went in and just did a mad session of a 2 week period where
we recorded 14 or 15 songs over 12 days. It was just completely explosive.
There were a lot things going on, like my dad was dying at that point. So
it became a huge outlet, a release to be able to go there and take my head
away from the things that were happening in my reality..."
