HOMEBREW SESSIONS & related (1991-1992)

In 1996 Q Magazine published an article with a photo from 1992 showing Neneh in her home in Sweden where 'Homebrew' had been recorded with the tracks of the album chalked up on a blackboard (a total of 19!). There were several titles that didn't appear on the final version of the album. This might be because the songs have never been finished and recorded or because they have simply been left out and stored somewhere, e.g. 'Heart Throbs' that reappeared in 1996 as a B-Side of the 'Woman' single or 'Marvin' that could be the Marvin Gaye song 'Trouble Man' which appeared on a tribute compilation in 1995 before making it on 'Man'.

MAN SESSIONS & related (1994-1997)

Neneh says about 'Man': The funny thing about this album is that the stuff that is actually on the album as we speak was done quite recently. But we started several years ago it seems. Initially we went off and did some work in Sweden with two guys and we were kind of going for something that was a bit more street based. And we worked for like 2 or 3 months writing a bunch of songs, good songs but the whole thing sounded a bit contrived, it was just something lacking. It wasn't really them, maybe it was us, who knows... So my question would be, where are the tracks recorded in Sweden?

Apart from that it seems that Neneh and Tricky have written a handfull of songs together that Neneh had at a certain point planned to release on a separate EP. So far 'Together Now', 'I Wanna Know', 'Had You In Me', 'Crack Baby' and 'Devotion' have been released but there might be more...

Australian band UP recorded some music with Neneh back in 1997 which was never released. UP was looking to finally release a CD in early 2001 the collaborations being a part of that album. As far as we know this CD has still not been released.

LP4 SESSIONS & related (1998-1999)

In 1999, Neneh's management announced a possible tracklisting for the planned fourth album. This album has apparently been shelved and new material with a strong focus on songwriting is being recorded at this very moment. Some of the following tracks might make it on the new album but this has not yet been confirmed.

Stingy
Break
Ooh Child
Mother Of Invention
Phat
I Don't Want To Do It Like This
The official site of UK singer Beverley Skeete who has sung background vocals for the likes of Tom Jones, Lisa Stansfield, Take That, Gabrielle, M People, Eurythmics, Louise from Eternal and many many others reports that Beverley has recorded background vocals for those 6 tracks in 1999. This means they exist and have actually been recorded.

The track 'Break' was scheduled for an appearance on the soundtrack to 'The Beach', a Hollywood success with Leonardo di Caprio and Virginie Ledoyen but was left out in the end.

Never Too Late
Neneh recently told on a radio show she did for BBC2 that she had the honour and chance to record with Najat Aatabou, a big star of traditional Chabi music in Maroc and the Arab world who released her first album in the early eighties. The track she was talkingh about is 'Never Too Late'. According to various sources the song talks about youth : Najat whose family wanted her to become a lawyer decided against the will of her family to become a singer and ran away to Casablanca to sign a record deal. Rejected by her family she now turns her story into a song and it is this song she sings with Neneh: "Ma mre qu'est-ce que j'ai fait? Excuse-moi, c'est le destin qui nous a spar..." to just quote a few words from the tune 'Never too late' in French language.

We also know the following: The fourth album will feature duets with Sheryl Crow, Huey from the alternative Hip-Hop/Soul band Fun Lovin' Criminals, Nigel Pulsford, Bushs leadsinger, and yet another project with Bernard Butler from Suede who played the guitar solo on 'Woman'.

Painkiller
Then there is the song 'Painkiller' that does not appear on the 1999 tracklisting for the fourth album. Bits of 'Painkiller' feature in the Dead Bolt Dead movie. But the full song remains unreleased.

OTHER COLLABORATIONS (1999-2005)

Ooh Child
Neneh recorded a new version of the classic 'Ooh Child' in 1999 for a movie called 'Our Song' directed by Jim McKay ('Girls Town'). The site of Neneh's management confirms this information in her biography but in spite of this the very beautiful song in the movie is not performed by Neneh but by a different singer. So where is 'Ooh Child'?

There Is
(Carl Cox feat. Neneh Cherry)
'
There is' is the desperately awaited collaboration between Carl Cox and our beloved Neneh. The track was going to appear on Carl Cox's artist album 'Second Sign' released in April '05 but for some reason it disappeared from the tracklist. 'There is' was actually recorded in early 2002 but the release of the album was delayed for a long time as the album had not been signed to a label at that point. Carl Cox about 'There Is': "Neneh Cherry heard my breakbeat kind of Latin Samba track and she loved it. So she basically just did these vocals over the top of it". There were unconfirmed rumours that Carl Cox and Neneh had also worked on a second track.

Second Amendment
(United State feat. Neneh Cherry & ADL)
Producer Phil Legg who has met Neneh at a party in London in 2002 has been working with her and his band United State. Phil Legg recorded a track called 'Second Amendment' with Neneh and Swedish rapper ADL on lead vocals. The song is supposed to appear on an album called 'Tales from the city' whose release that was actually scheduled for early '04 has been pushed back to an unknown date. 'Second Amendment' is also scheduled for a single release.

Reborn (Tommy Evans feat. Neneh Cherry)
This track figures in the official discography on Tommy Evans' website. There's a White Label release from December 2003 on Jugula Records but no one seems to have ever heard this song.

In December 2002 Killa Kela's official site reported that he was writing with Neneh Cherry and Finlay Quaye. Killa Kela who names himself UK's best human beat boxer sings, DJs, scratches, plays drums, keyboards, guitar and bass all with his mouth and throat and all at the same time. Neneh's manager denied this information.

In a 2003 interview Neneh tells that she has been writing songs for other artists without revealing any names. Who are they and what happened to these works?
