REVIEWS:
"...Pictures is the second artist album from Timo Maas; his debut Loud was a combination of techno and big beat with enough drunken party tunes to give Fatboy Slim a run for his money. Here though, Maas is trying for something a bit different with more emphasis on song structure and arrangements than big hooks...

One of the best things about Pictures is that it gets better and better as the album progresses. The aforementioned tunes are good but not special when compared to the spooky and sonically masterful High Drama featuring Neneh Cherry or the progressive epic 4 UR Ears with long-time collaborator Kelis. Maas' confidence for composing clever, melodic lines that weave in and out of each other has grown immeasurably for this second album...

If you're after pure dancefloor killers then you'd be better getting one of his Music for the Maases remix compilations but if you want something more substantial that's great for listening, Pictures is the perfect album."

"...Neneh Cherry guests on High Drama, a song originally written for P. Diddy's long overdue dance album, and the ethereal, dreamlike qualities of her voice help to provide one of the strongest tracks that Timo has ever worked on..."

"...Kelis is a guest again on Pictures and her particular vocal stylings feature in 4 Ur Ears. However, it's the inclusion of Neneh Cherry on High Drama that showcases her surreal vocal calibre and makes for one of the most complex and intelligently arranged tracks on the album...

Timo Maas' Pictures is electronica realised into an eclectic puzzle that has been solved; something ageless and classic in dance music that brings all the elements of the genre together to make a living, breathing body of work."

"...High Drama features Neneh Cherry and Jokate. This song has an interesting background. Initially it was called Feedback Welcome and we wrote it for P. Diddy's dance album. But it has never been released and we've been waiting for a response from P. Diddy's company Big Boy Entertainment all the time. They had been telling us that they really wanted the track and that P. Diddy had already recorded the vocals. But then they never got back to us and we never got any replies to our business messages. He's never going to release this anyway, he's been delaying this for over 3 years now. And we don't accept that one of our best tracks is turning to dust. So we've contacted them again telling them we'd like to use the track ourselves. There was still no reply, we'd have been happy if it had worked out with P. Diddy but now we got our track back and that's fine, too. JoKate, who sings the verse here, has already tried out a few other songs we sent her. But we didn't like the result. Then she recorded the vocals for Coming Home (that had to be left out of the album in the end due to legal issues). And we loved it so we invited Jokate to sing on some other album tracks. Neneh Cherry sings the chorus, but our collaboration was not so easy. We don't have the permission to release High Drama as a single because Neneh is going to release an new album herself soon. JoKate and Neneh harmonize well on High Drama. We didn't like the track with Neneh all by herself, guess we were looking for a tighter sound..."
