So
what's the latest around Neneh?
APRIL 2009: cirKus have
made a stunning live performance on Manu Katché's 'One Shot
Not', probably one of the most watched music TV
shows in Europe. The program was aired on April 18th on ARTE TV in
France and Germany. We are terribly sorry for not having informed
you in time but if you hurry, you can still watch
the online streamof the show on ARTE.tv.
- April 30th
cirKus
are back in their studio in Sweden recording an acoustic version of
the album 'Medicine'. "The
vibe from the various 'unplugged sessions we did was really cool, so
hopefully recording one in a log cabin in the woods will also feel
good..." This one's definitely got us excited. Stay
tuned for more info. - April 30th
FEB 2009: Good
news: cirKus
will release their highly anticipated second album 'Medicine'
in France and Belgium on March 9th. Over the past months
cirKus have been getting their hands full with editing, cutting and
mixing the new material and designing the artwork. And now that
everything's ready, we can definitely say that it was worth the wait.
The critics' reactions to the 11 tracks were very positive. Some of
you might have already had the chance to "sneak a peak"
of the new sound on the few live shows cirKus played over the past
months. You can expect an electro influenced groundbreaking sound
which will take your musical perception to a whole new level. And we
can now unveil the complete tracklist: 1. Drug
of choice, 2. Bells, 3. Hardly breathing, 4. Unattended bag,
5. Beats
Tripple 1 1, 6. Grid lock, 7. Fight with a girl, 8. Drunk &
Stoned, 9. Johnny Icon, 10. Medicine, 11. Every day life.Order
it here today.
Neneh
is busy working on her solo material. About 5 songs have been
recorded so far but it's still too early to say which musical
direction the new album will take. At present Neneh has been
gathering a lot of different ideas which the team is going to start honing
down soon. We'll keep you informed. - Feb 25th
JAN 2009:
New cirKus tour
coming up all over France and Belgium. Check out the tour dates and venues
in the NEWS section above. - Jan 31st
AUG 2008: Finally cirKus have uploaded new material from the upcoming
album 'Medicine' on their Myspace site. The first extract is
titled 'Bells' with Burt Ford on the lead. 'Bells' maintains
the feel of previous cirKus material but is a huge step forward from
'Laylow' - but better listen
to it yourself. It is possibly going to be the first single
release as there's also an animated video available by U.S. Rick (watch
below).
Another track that is now available online is 'Grid lock'. 'Medicine'
will feature a Neneh Cherry lead on 'Unattended bag'
and a Lola Moon feature called 'Johnny Icon'. cirKus have announced
that they will treat us with new tracks from the album every
fortnight - so make sure you check back regularly now. - Aug
29th
MAY 2008: MAYDAY
MAYHEM! Neneh
Cherry made a rare solo appearance at the Concorde 2 in Brighton/UK
on May 1st to raise money
for rYico.org,
who are dedicated to helping children in Rwanda. Alongside other
special guests Neneh performed acoustic versions of Buffalo Stance
and Germ Free Adolescent. - May 12th
FEBRUARY 2008: Fresh news
for ya'll. cirKus have nearly completed their follow up opus and are
currently in Paris to present it to various critics from the press.
The title is yet to be confirmed. The album will be quite different
from 'Laylow' using up influences the band gained while touring.
Neneh describes it as being "much more sociable" with a
"70s disco feel" to it.
In
other news, cirKus have played a few gigs in Brazil a couple of
weeks ago. The response from the public over there was very positive
and 'Cutting out a career', Lola's solo song, will be released as a
single on the Brazilian market. The video clip was filmed in late December 2007, see
it here.
Neneh
played a DJ-set at Mosebacken in Stockholm last week. And she will
be organising a series of theme parties at a brasserie in Stockholm
together with her friend Andrea Oliver and sister Titiyo, starting off with a
brazilian Feijoada Feast.
Neneh
has gotten back to writing for her solo album, Karmil from cirKus
gave her a few beats she's working on at the moment. She says:
"Now I'm ready to do it!" When asked about a possible
release date, Neneh explains:"To be realistic, there's the
cirKus tour coming up this summer and around christmas it's
impossible to bring out new material, so expect it for February
2009." - Feb 11th
JULY
2007:
13 years after their massive
hit '7Seconds' Grammy award winner Youssou N'Dour and Neneh
Cherry have teamed up again to record another big anthem. 'Wake
Up Africa' taken from Youssou N'Dour's forthcoming studio album
will be released on Oct 22nd. To get a first taste of this beautiful
song, prelisten here.
- July 12th
MAY
2007:
Producers Cameron McVey and Karmil just got home from Dakar in
Senegal where they have been mixing down Youssou N'Dour's new
record. There have been many talks about the new collaboration
with Neneh Cherry and the possible release date. Now we finally
know that the duet is titled "Africa calling" and
will be part of Youssou's
album.
In
other news, cirKus are back at their studio in Stockholm, Sweden
mixing down 'Laylow 007' which is a new version of the
original 'Laylow' album using the arrangements from the live show.
They've recorded more drums and guitars and more vocals so it should
be a good compliment to the existing more chilled original album.
And cirKus
will again be touring Europe starting June 1st in Sannois,
France. Last but not least, don't miss tonight's
episode of 'Dish It Up' with special guest Eagle-Eye
Cherry. - May 8th
APRIL
2007:
DISH IT UP.
After "Midnight Margheritas" don't forget to tune
in on today's episode "Maria's 70th birthday".
Reactions to last week's show were diverse. While most viewers loved
the programme, others were criticising a lack of detail and
structure. But don't forget, this was a first time experience for
both ladies who admitted it was strange to cook in front of a camera.
And the show is meant to be a celebration of life, friendship, love
and food. It's not a professional cookery show, just two girls
throwing together ingredients and having fun experimenting with
flavours. And trust us, it's yummy. And of course you can find all
the details of the recipes on the BBC2
site.
Meanwhile
a lot of people have inquired about the burlesque delicious knickers
featured in Episode 1. Here they are, hand made by the Hackney based
and aptly named Buttress
& Snatch. - April 11th
MARCH
2007: NENEH
AND ANDI DISHING IT UP ON BBC2.
Best friends Neneh Cherry and Andrea Oliver are passionate about food – and their long friendship has centred on the meals they've cooked and eaten together. In
the long awaited first episode of the brand new series, the pair spread the feel-good taste of their food by sharing their recipes and entertaining
tips. Named after one of their favourite chick-flicks, the first episode is
Midnight Margaritas. Twelve of Andi and Neneh's closest girlfriends travel from all across Europe to indulge in a tapas-inspired
feast. Airing on BBC2 TV on April 4th at 8h30. Make sure not
to miss out on this appetizing highlight. And whose mouth wouldn't
water at the thought of home-made Margaritas, prawn and squid ceviche,
crispy duck salad, rice scented with orange, lime and cardamon and tofu
steaks coated in honey and soya. - March 24th

Neneh
has contributed to a charity project raising funds to
fight for the rights of Philippine children by designing a
special enveloppe. Hundreds of thousands of children in the Philippines work as domestics; most are girls. They are forced to work long hours in unacceptable conditions and are deprived of their right to education, rest and recreation. They are isolated from their families and friends, and are under the complete control of their employers.
Neneh's work and those of the other participating arists will
be auctioned on eBay by Asmae (Association Sœur Emmanuelle),
the organization behind this project. The auctions will be taking
place from October 10th - 20th. Make sure you bid, it's for a good
cause and your one time opportunity to own a special artwork that
Neneh has created. - Aug 31st Neneh
recorded with a Swedish group called Teddybears. The result
is a little rock track called "Yours to keep".
Teddybears' roots are said to be punk oriented and you can hear it.
"Yours to keep" is not exactly new, initially it has been
recorded with a different female vocalist 6 years ago. This new
version will appear on the band's U.S. debut "Soft Machine"
to be released on September 12th. For more info check out their homepage
or their myspace
profile. - Aug 3rd

New
collaboration this time with Swedish hip hop artist Petter.
The result: a sexy track titled "Tête à tête"
that's been called 'musical porn' by Swedish reviewers. And this
might be the first time you hear Neneh rap in Swedish - and she
makes a very clear statement of her intentions asking "Vad vill
du ha inatt" ("What do you want to do tonight").
"Tête à tête" appears on Petter's album "P"
now available in stores. - May 3rd
APRIL

Neneh Cherry and her long time friend Andrea Oliver have plans to create their
own televised cooking show. It's all about soul, comfort and the good things - "Love, life,

Jamieson has just interviewed Neneh for the UK Telegraph's fashion
feature 'Fashion Junkie'. Since her fulgurant solo debut
'Buffalo Stance' in homage to the so-called 'Buffalo co-operative'
founded by designers and stylists Ray Petri, Jamie Morgan, Vivienne
Westwood, Neneh has been setting fashion trends. From tight Lycra
and tons of gold jewellery, to evening dresses and biker boots or
just simply jeans and sneakers, Neneh has sported it all. If you
want to find out about Neneh's urban fashion and beauty secrets
in 2006, then continue reading here.
